Brandan was born in Tasmania in 2014. He was smaller than expected and nothing about his early development was quite right. Fabienne explains:

“Brandan was finding it so hard to communicate. He had limited hand gestures and when he couldn’t get his point across, he would end up screaming at me. I felt his frustration and it broke my heart. He was starting Prep soon and I worried about him making friends.”

When Fabienne and Brandan came to Scope Brandan was two years old.

We tailored a speech therapy program for him and in 2019, a Scope Speech Pathologist, organised a high-tech device trial which Brandan immediately showed potential with. He received his very own device in June 2020.

“Brandan is very fast on the tablet. He can make one to four word sentence combinations so he doesn’t get as frustrated. Using his tablet he is able to request, comment, share and protest! He is enjoying going to school and I have hope for the future.” Fabienne said.

The act of communicating not only helps Brandan meet his needs, but it also helps him to be connected in his relationships with family and friends.

A generous gift of $85 can help support Scope’s services so more children can receive the right communication device for their needs, and greater long-term independence.

Brandan is now seven years old and has recently been diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder. He is nonverbal but with the help of his communicator he is enjoying Grade 1.

Thank you for helping Brandan find his voice.
